The 8 Best Electric & Stovetop Gooseneck Kettles of 2023: Reviews

If you want to improve the flavor of your daily cup of coffee you may want to invest in a device that will take your pour over technique to the next level.

To spare you some time I gathered the best gooseneck kettles in a list with reviews that will help you choose the right one for your budget and needs.

A pour over kettle with a precise spout allows for the water to come out at the right speed and makes it easier for you to achieve a consistent flow rate.

Here I made sure to include both stovetop and electric gooseneck kettles with variable temperature control.

A built-in thermometer is also a great kettle feature for precise coffee enthusiasts and tea lovers.

With that being said, let’s dive into the essential part of this article.

The top 8 gooseneck kettles for pour over coffee and tea

Kettle: Type Price Bracket
1. Cosori electric with variable temperature presets $$$
2. Fino stainless steel kettle for gas, electric or induction stovetop $
3. Bonavita electric kettle with variable temperature control $$$$
4. Coffee Gator stainless steel stovetop (gas, electric, induction) with built-in thermometer $$
5. Brewista Artisan electric with variable temperature; the most functional kettle $$$$$
6. Kalita Wave stovetop, no thermometer $$$
7. Fellow Stagg EKG electric kettle with adjustable temperature feature $$$$$

To cherry-pick the products, I took into consideration their convenience of use, functionality, durability, and how affordable they are.

Nevertheless, even the top gooseneck kettles have their flaws, so in my reviews, I make sure to point them out.

By reading through, you’ll be able to make an informed decision and choose the pour-over kettle that matches your requirements and budget best.

So here are the top gooseneck kettles:

1. Cosori – An Electric Pour Over Kettle With Variable Temperature Presets

Cosori Gooseneck Kettle with Variable Temperature Presets
Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.

The Cosori pour over kettle is one of the best stainless steel electric kettles with variable temperature control.

It is accurate and convenient to use.

It heats the water fast, can maintain the desired preset water temperature for as long as you need it to, and its gooseneck spout provides great pouring control.

On top of that, it looks very nice on the kitchen counter because of its aesthetically pleasing design.

The Cosori kettle can hold 26 fl. oz. of water (around 800 milliliters), so if you consider a serving of coffee or tea to be 8 fl. oz. (240 milliliters) you can basically use the device to make around 3 servings at once.

Another advantage of this electric gooseneck kettle is the fact that it has a relatively long cord (36 inches, around 90 cm), so you can be more flexible when you’re choosing a spot for it on the kitchen counter.

The Cosori kettle has 5 variable presets that you can choose from by clicking the desired temperature’s button:

  • 170°F (76.6°C) for white tea;
  • 180°F (82.22°C) for green tea;
  • 195°F (90.5°C) for oolong tea;
  • 205°F (96.1°C) for coffee;
  • 212°F (100°C) heat to boil;

When it comes to pour over coffee, we know that water temperature should generally be between 195°F (90.5°C) and 205°F (96.1°C).

On the other hand, if you’re making darkly roasted coffee, you may even want to use 180°F (82.22°C) water.

So it’s safe to say that the temperature presets of the Cosori provide the needed flexibility to make adequate adjustments to the water temperature you use for your pour-over brew.

Nevertheless, a rather common water temperature that’s been used for brewing with a, say, Chemex or a Hario V60 pour-over device is 200°F (93.3°C).

Furthermore, many coffee enthusiasts like to slightly alter the temperature of their water, depending on the type of beans they use and their roast profile.

So if you’re one of those coffee aficionados, the Cosori gooseneck kettle, won’t be able to provide the desired flexibility in terms of its variable temperature presets.

Bear in mind that when the water is hot, the kettle itself feels quite warm to touch.

Of course, its handle feels cool, so it doesn’t cause any inconveniences when pouring.

This gooseneck kettle is also quite easy to clean.

You can decrease the rate at which scale builds up on the inside by removing the unused water from the steel container after each use and leaving the lid open for it to dry out quickly.

Try to avoid using tap water in your gooseneck kettle, especially if you’re aware that it’s hard.

Not only will this cause a rapid accumulation of limescale, but it may have a negative impact on your coffee’s flavor.

If you want you can check out my post on the best water for coffee for more insight.

Still, if you think that descaling is due, fill up your gooseneck kettle with the 1:1 lemon juice to water solution (or other descaling solution you have at hand) and run a boil cycle.

To clean it you can also fill up the water reservoir, add a teaspoon of baking soda and bring the water to boil.

Then leave it in there for 15 to 20 minutes, remove the water, and rinse. This cleaning procedure can be applied to all of the gooseneck kettles on this list.

With all being said, the Cosori gooseneck electric kettle is definitely one of my top picks.

It’s beginner-friendly, easy to use, clean, and at the same time – quite affordable, compared to other similar products.

2. Fino – Stovetop Gooseneck Kettle

Fino Stovetop Gooseneck Kettle
Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.

The Fino brand offers a high-quality stainless steel gooseneck kettle made in Japan that can be used on gas, electric, and induction stovetops.

It provides the essential for pour-over coffee pouring control.

On top of that, it’s made with high-quality materials and it’s built to last for years of daily use.

All of this, combined with its budget-friendly price, makes the Fino gooseneck kettle one of the best stovetop kettles for pour-over coffee.

So if you have a Chemex, a Hario V60, or a, say, Melitta dripper, but you don’t want to spend too much for a gooseneck kettle, I recommend getting this one.

At the moment of writing, it is the cheapest one on this list, but this does not speak for its quality.

Products, made in Japan, are usually well-built and sturdy.

Furthermore, in Japan the pour-over coffee brewing method is the most widely spread one.

That’s why, generally, pour-over devices and accessories, manufactured in Japan are of higher quality compared to similar products that are made elsewhere.

That being said, there are some disadvantages that you should consider.

The Fino gooseneck kettle doesn’t have a thermometer, so if you want to be precise with the water temperature, you’ll have to get a thermometer additionally.

If you plan on doing so, I recommend getting the CDN ProAccurate® Waterproof Digital Thermometer that you can see in the following photo:
CDN ProAccurate thermometer
Click here to check out its price and more photos on Amazon.

You can find a good use for it not only when making coffee or tea, but also while cooking, so it can be quite a reasonable investment.

Furthermore, if you love making caffè latte or cappuccino beverages at home, you can use the thermometer to measure the temperature of milk.

The ideal temperature for milk in such beverages is 131-149°F (55-65°C).

If you steam the milk to more than 158°F (70°C) its proteins will start denaturing, which will lead to undesirable coffee drink flavor and smell.

On the other hand, many people don’t use a thermometer when making their pour over coffee.

They just bring the water to a boil, remove it from the heat, and let it sit for up to one minute before pouring it over the coffee grounds.

This procedure is very efficient in ensuring a water temperature within the ideal range of 195°F to 205°F (90°C – 96°C).

Another downside of the Fino gooseneck kettle is the fact that all the product information, printed on the box, is written in Japanese.

That’s not uncommon for Japanese products, but it would be great if there was an English translation.

Fortunately, this kettle’s use and maintenance are pretty straightforward.

I’d recommend using it on medium-high heat on a gas stove to avoid heating up the handle too much.

Still, you may want to have a potholder at hand just in case.

By avoiding high flame you will also make sure that the bottom parts of the stainless steel won’t get discolored.

You should also be aware that the Fino pour over kettle doesn’t whistle when the water boils.

Nevertheless, you can easily tell when it’s boiling, as there’s steam and its lid makes a gentle rattling noise.

Overall the Fino gooseneck kettle is the perfect pour-over kettle if you’re looking for a sturdy and well-performing, yet affordable product.

It’s definitely one of my top picks in the stovetop category.

3. Bonavita – Electric Kettle With Variable Temperature Control

Bonavita electric kettle with variable temperature control
Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.

The Bonavita electric kettle is one of the most widely spread gooseneck kettles among passionate coffee lovers.

You’ll hear its name when people who’ve been making pour-over coffee daily for quite a while make a kettle recommendation to a beginner.

The Bonavita has a variable temperature setting so you can dial in the optimal water temperature.

Its spout provides the perfect pouring control that will help you improve your pour-over technique.

Unlike the electric Cosori that I reviewed earlier, the Bonavita kettle doesn’t have presets, so you can be more flexible.

This will let you do a bit of experimenting to figure out what’s the exact water temperature that extracts the best coffee flavor out of your specialty beans.

On the other hand, the Bonavita power cord is shorter than the Cosori one, so it has to be situated closer to a power outlet.

This may be a bit frustrating for some of you, so it’s worth noting.

With that being said, after reaching the desired temperature, the Bonavita kettle can maintain it for up to an hour if you take advantage of the ‘hold’ feature.

This electric gooseneck kettle is quite convenient to use and maintain.

Just make sure you empty it out after each use and leave the lid open so that the inside dries out.

If your Bonavita’s base screen shows a “Hi-Err” error message then maybe you’re at a higher altitude and the water has reached the boiling point before reaching the temperature you’ve dialed in.

At higher elevation water boils at a lower temperature.

If that’s not the case, you should contact the customer service team, as you’ve been sent a faulty unit.

The manufacturer will send another electric base.

If you use this gooseneck kettle every day for your coffee and tea, it would, of course, wear off over time.

It’s still sturdy enough to serve its purpose for years, so it’s definitely worth the investment.

All of its features, accuracy, and convenience of use, make the Bonavita kettle one of the best electric pour-over kettles with variable temperature control.

So I’d recommend it to anyone without any hesitation.

If you’re looking for a more affordable electric kettle and you aren’t rigorous about the water temperature, here you can see another simpler gooseneck kettle by Bonavita.

It’s without variable temperature control, but it’s still great for daily coffee and tea making.

It also has an auto shut-off feature, so you don’t have to manually turn it off when the water starts boiling.

4. Coffee Gator – A Sturdy Stovetop Kettle With Thermometer

Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.

The Coffee Gator pour-over kettle is one of the best non-electric gooseneck kettles that can be used on all types of stovetops including induction.

It has an accurate built-in thermometer.

That’s a highly beneficial gauge no matter whether you use your kettle to prepare coffee or tea.

Meanwhile, its pour spout provides the necessary control when brewing a Chemex or a Hario V60 batch.

On top of that, the Coffee Gator kettle has a sleek design that makes it one of the top picks on this list.

I’ve actually bought one a while back and I’m very happy with my purchase.

Coffee Gator gooseneck kettle unboxing

To be fair, I’m quite a fan of this particular brand and that’s not only because they’re always coming up with well-performing yet cool-looking coffee accessories and devices.

Their customer service is remarkable and if you ever need some sort of assistance, they’re always ready to help and make you satisfied with your purchase.

The Coffee Gator stovetop kettle also comes with a nice silicone cover that prevents burning your fingers on its body.

Important: If you use your Coffee Gator on the gas stove, make sure it’s not on high heat, to avoid melting of the silicone cover.

It’s also worth noting that it’s larger than some of the previous entries.

It’s marketed as a 54 oz. (around 1600 milliliters) kettle, but its actual capacity is 40 fl. oz. (1200 ml).

Still, if you have a 10-cup Chemex, this product would be a perfect match.

Other than that, this stainless steel kettle has a hinged lid which makes filling easier.

Overall if there’s one word that can describe this product’s top characteristic it would probably be “ergonomics”.

As you can see it’s also quite aesthetically pleasing.

So the Coffee Gator kettle would make a perfect gift for a friend or a relative who loves preparing and having coffee or tea regularly.

There’s actually another stovetop pour over kettle offered by the Coffee Gator company. You can see it in the following photo:

It has a more classic look and comes with a built-in thermometer as well. I’d say this one is worth the investment too, so you should definitely consider it as an option.

5. Brewista Artisan – Premium Quality & Precise Temperature Selection

Barista Artisan electric kettle with precise temperature selection

This gooseneck kettle is an impressively elegant pour over device.

The Brewista Artisan has accurate variable temperature control which is beneficial for making both coffee and tea.

The kettle’s spout allows for a consistent flow rate and precise control of the pour.

This electric device heats up water fast and does a perfect job of keeping it at the desired temperature for an hour.

All of this combined with its other user-friendly features make the Brewista one of the top electric kettles for pour over coffee.

It may seem like it’s quite expensive, but it does have a lot of functionalities that make it stand out.

For example, the Brewista kettle always remembers the last temperature you’ve last dialed in, even after you turn it off or unplug it.

There are also commonly used preset temperatures that you can quickly choose from.

So you won’t have to manually enter the same number each time you use your gooseneck kettle.

On top of that, if you just need to it boil some water, you can simply press a button that does just that.

The water temperature can also be shown in Celsius, which makes this gooseneck kettle a perfect pick for Europeans too.

The Brewista Artisan electric kettle has a 30 fl. oz. (900 ml) max fill line.

Its handle seems wooden, but it isn’t actually made of wood.

It just has a wooden finish that compliments its overall sleek look.

Speaking of looks, you can choose from a variety of Brewista Artisan colors. This is definitely a product advantage that will be appreciated by consumers who are looking for a gooseneck kettle that will match their kitchen interior.
Brewista Artisan gooseneck kettle color variations

Keep in mind that the wooden finish may start peeling after a months of daily use. So go for a one-color plain model if you want to avoid that.

A disadvantage of this electric device would be the fact that the interface isn’t very intuitive and it might be a bit frustrating to figure out what each control does.

Nevertheless, the Brewista Artisan gooseneck kettle does come with a helpful user manual.

Once you go over the basics, it would be easy for you to work with this pour-over kettle’s controls.

It also comes with a guide that teaches you about the optimal temperature for brewing different beverages.

If you have the means, buy this kettle.

The Brewista Artisan is truly one of the best gooseneck kettles out there.

It’s also perfect for a gift for a close friend who’s a coffee or tea lover.

6. Kalita Wave – another Japanese well-built stovetop kettle

Kalita Wave stovetop gooseneck kettle
Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.
The 34 oz. (1 liter) Kalita Wave gooseneck kettle is another one of my favorites.

It’s made of stainless steel and it’s manufactured in Japan which means that we can count on its overall build quality.

It’s durable and functional, but most importantly – the end of its spout provides the necessary drip control.

It’s a stovetop kettle that also works on induction.

If you use it on a gas stovetop make sure the flame is smaller than the kettle’s base to avoid overheating its handle.

Lower heat also means that it will take longer for it to bring water to a boil.

Speaking of this gooseneck kettle’s base, it’s somewhat smaller than a standard one – its diameter is 4.82 inches (123 mm).

So if you are to use it on an induction cooktop, make sure that your smallest burner can actually detect the kettle (by taking into consideration the base diameter).

Unfortunately, the Kalitta Wave comes with an instruction manual that’s written in Japanese.

There isn’t an English translation yet. But I wouldn’t say one really needs instructions when it comes to the use of stovetop kettles.

Other than that, it’s a high-quality and a rather inexpensive kettle that’s worth every cent.

It doesn’t come with a thermometer.

Nevertheless, many people use it to decant boiling water. When you pour the boiling water into the Kalitta, its temperature will drop a bit. Nevertheless, this would bring within the optimal range for pour-over, especially if you prefer darker roasts.

Overall, you should definitely consider the Kalitta gooseneck kettle, as it’s one of the top products available.

7. Fellow Stagg EKG – Stylish Gooseneck Kettle With Variable Temperature Setting

Click here to see the current price and more photos on Amazon.

The Fellow Stagg EKG is an ergonomic and functional electric kettle with variable temperature control.

With its minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing looks, it’s one of the top picks on this list in terms of appearance.

This gooseneck kettle heats up quickly and it’s great at maintaining the selected temperature steady once reached.

Its interface is quite intuitive and you’ll easily get used to its controls.

The temperature display can also be set to either Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Apart from its ability to provide the optimal water temperature for your pour-over coffee or tea, this gooseneck kettle is great because of its consistent flow rate as you pour.

The user-oriented handle design provides balance, which makes pouring an effortless process.

You can get this sleek pour-over kettle not only in its matte black version but also in polished steel, or in warm pink color, as seen in the photo below:

Still, there are some Fellow Stagg EKG disadvantages that are to be considered.

The first one would be that the Fellow Stagg gooseneck kettle only holds 30 fl. oz. (or 900 ml).

So if you often make more than three cups of coffee at a time, it might be slightly smaller than ideal.

It also doesn’t make any sort of noise when the desired temperature is reached, which causes an inconvenience to some.

Another disadvantage would be the fact that despite its relatively high price, this kettle isn’t as durable as one would assume.

I’d say that in terms of longevity, the Bonavita kettle is definitely a winner compared to this stylish gooseneck kettle.

The good thing is that the Fellow Stagg comes with a full 1-year warranty.

Furthermore, there are many people who are happy with their Stagg kettle even after one year of daily use.

Not to mention that it’s one of the most widely spread kettle among passionate pour-over coffee connoisseurs.

Overall if someone gives me the Fellow Stagg EKG as a present, I’ll be more than happy.

I’d also buy it as a gift for a fellow coffee lover, as I’m certain that all of my friends who are passionate about coffee would love to have this cool gooseneck kettle.

Conclusion

I hope I did help you out and you’ve managed to choose the gooseneck kettle that suits your needs best.

If you are just diving into the world of pour-over coffee with a new Chemex, Hario V60, nel drip pot, or another similar device, I’m sure that you’ll be more than happy when you start using your kettle.

No matter whether you’ve picked an electric one with variable temperature control, or a stovetop version, it will definitely improve your pouring technique and the flavor of your coffee.

Nevertheless, there are other variables that are essential for improving your coffee’s taste.

Some of them are the grind size and consistency, that can be improved if you opt for one of the best coffee grinders for pour-over (click the link to check out my comprehensive buyer guide and product recommendations).
